The Watertown Urban Mission
SERVICES
• Advocacy- The Urban Mission client advocate interacts with the community and decision makers to advocate on issues affecting
people with disabilities and for intervention on behalf of the individual clients or the underprivileged whose problems cannot be resolved by themselves.
• Bridge Program- A NYS funded Alternative to Incarceration Program based in Jefferson County. The Court refers non-violent offenders for closely monitored rehabilitation.
• Christian Care Center- This is a drop-in center which provides a place of caring and acceptance, with free coffee, socializing and spiritual growth opportunities for those who wish to participate.
•Court Referrals- The Watertown Urban Mission will accept referrals from local courts of those needing to do community service. The Urban Mission or Impossible Dream will provide the community service to be performed and supervision.
• Critical Needs- This program helps with immediate essential needs such as a prescription, clothing, assistance with transportation, infant formula, etc.
- Drug Court - Collateral services, case
management under Jefferson County Drug Court Coordinator.
• Food Pantry- Emergency food pantry providing
three meals a day for each member of the household once every thirty days. After
three necessary visits in a calendar year, the client must attend a Food and Nutrition Planning class taught by Cornell Cooperative Extension and held at the Urban Mission.
• St. Dismas Fund- Designed to assist those recently released from incarceration with a fine to pay. The Fund provides minimum wage for two days of supervised work at the Watertown Urban Mission or the
Impossible Dream with a portion of the pay mailed directly to the court for the fine.
• Wheels to Work- Designed to provide low cost vehicles for individuals with a dependent child and employment needing transportation to work. The
program accepts used vehicles donated to the program which are eligible for a tax deduction.
