OUR
MISSION
To
identify and improve the quality of life for the Blind and Visually
Impaired through education and services, and to assist them in maintaining
a life of independence and
participation in the
mainstream of the community.
Visually Impaired refers to vision loss that interferes with normal living, even with corrective lenses.
Legally Blind describes a person with an acuity of 20/200 or more in the better eye with the best correction. The legally blind person can see at 20 feet what the average person can see at 200 feet. Or, a person whose field of vision is reduced to an angle of 20°.
OUR SERVICES
Adaptive Aids
are made available during home visits or at our office.
In-home visits
are conducted at least
annually, or as needed.
Rehabilitation
Instruction
is provided in adaptive methods of daily activities by a
Vision Rehabilitation Specialist.
Support Groups- Facilitate six Peer Support Groups; two in Watertown, one each in Clayton, Alexandria Bay,
Adams, and Carthage
that are open to all.
Loan Cupboard- Teaching aids along with books and videos can
be borrowed to assist people with visual impairments, their parents and teachers.
Large Print Newsletter, “Eye Talk” and Calendar-
Mailed to clients at no charge.
Visualtek Program- CCTV’s which magnify normal print up to 60x are loaned to clients.
